With more than 16,000 public and privately owned campgrounds across the U.S., RV owners are free to roam Americas roads for a weekend or even months at a time. If youre going to be on the road for that long, you couldn't possibly dream of leaving your beloved furry friend at home.

The great thing about traveling by RV is that theres room for every member of your family, including your pets. Before you head out with your four-legged friend, however, make sure you are fully prepared for the journey with these important tips.

Four Tips for RVing With Your Dog

    1. Pay a visit to the vet ahead of time.
Always make sure that your pet is healthy enough to travel. Your vet can also warn you of any issues that may come up during your travels, such as flea and tick concerns if you are camping in the woods. Before heading out, get your pup up to date on all vaccines.

    2. Plan your schedule with your pets needs in mind.
Your dog likely has a pretty regular routine in terms of feeding, walking, and relieving himself. Its always best to keep your pet on that same schedule as best you can. Deviations could cause agitation and digestive issues. So, as you travel along, make sure you are stopping to feed him and let him out around his normal times.

    3. Pack carefully for your pet.
Make sure you have all the right camper accessories to accommodate your furry friend. While packing, make sure you have enough food, water, and treats as well as a couple bowls. Dont forget toys and bedding, a leash, and a first aid kit for your pet. Additionally, make sure you have all the cleaning supplies youll need to pick up after him.

    4. Have fun!
Most importantly, have a great time and bond with your pup as much as you can. Play outside and show him as much love as you normally would at home.

Jayco Eagle Premier Fifth Wheel travel trailers, London Aire RVs, and Airstream interstate vans have plenty of space for your pet to accompany you comfortably on your trip. Just make sure you have all the right camper accessories to keep them healthy and happy and to keep your vehicle clean and sanitary.
